Huawei 8100

This is a page for Huawei-specific posts, such as how to root the phone, etc.

How to root a Huawei u8100

I've unlocked rooted my Huawei u8100-9 Android phone.

This is NOT the same as unlocking; turns out I was still tied to Wind after the following procedures. What is explained below is how to get access to "superuser" account on your phone (step 1) and make its CPU run faster (step 2).

I will put the instructions, and where I learned them from, below.

These instructions will be geared towards Ubuntu Linux as the computer, but Windows & Mac will be addressed.

Once the Celestial Tea Cup (CTC) over-clocking ROM has been flashed, I'll put those instructions up too.

I've purchased unlock code from http://www.instantunlockcodes.com/canada/ - just awaiting delivery.

Tethering Huawei u8100 in Ubuntu Linux

Attempting tethering on Ubuntu, using instructions originally posted here:

http://blog.swatteksystems.com/whats-that/archive/2010/03/07/tether-huaw...

But that site was down, so I got it from Google cache here:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:QukMa4qU6q8J:blog.s...

First, install usb_modeswitcher:

sudo apt-get install usb-modeswitcher

Then, I have (for now) left in place the Android Rules explained elsewhere on this site.

File /etc/modules has this before starting:

# /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time.
#
# This file contains the names of kernel modules that should be loaded
# at boot time, one per line. Lines beginning with "#" are ignored.

lp
rtc

We'll do the following to add something else to that file:

sudo echo "option" >> /etc/modules

sudo gedit /etc/rc.local, and add before exit 0:

echo '12d1 1031' > /sys/bus/usb-serial/drivers/option1/new_id

Unlocking u8100: problems

I tried to get unlock code(s) from http://www.instantunlockcodes.com/ but Steve there was unable to help in the end.

He apologised and initiated refund. Will update if that doesn't appear, but I'd use these guys again, given the choice.

And I'm having no success in finding algorythm for IMEI + MCCMNC -> unlock code.

Don't fail me now, Google!
